Learning

“Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experience between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances” EYFS (2014)

At Whitegate Pre-School, children learn through a carefully structured balance of free play and adult initiated/led play. Through topics and themes we plan broad and balanced experiences based on the learning objectives in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

We plan a wide range of stimulating and exciting activities which are carefully tailored to meet your child’s interests, strengths and needs and are designed to ensure that all children make progress to the best of their abilities.

We recognise the importance of free play, where the children are given the time and space to pursue what interests them most, with staff on hand to help extend the play and introduce new concepts and language.

Our continuous provision plan ensures that children can always access and develop in all areas of the curriculum.  Provision is enhanced daily according to children’s interests and needs.

We recognise the importance of outdoor play, our back door is open for the majority of the day, so children can choose whether they would like to play indoors or outdoors.  Our continuous provision carries on through into our beautiful back garden.  Again all areas of the curriculum can be accessed (music, science, reading, writing, physical development etc.).

We actively work in partnership with parents and guardians to ensure happy and healthy children who at the end of their stay with us are ready for big school. We hold regular parent’s evenings to keep you up to date with your child’s progress and also share termly progress reports through your child’s online learning journey.
